Q&A with Kasinda Clark
Why did you choose eye care as your career?
I worked in dental for 20 years and really desired a change. The offer came up to do something different and I started at Atwal Eye Care18 months ago. I really love it.
What makes it so fascinating for you?
I love learning the ins and outs of the eye.
What drives you to come into work every day with such a positive, determined mindset?
The people I work with are amazing and once patients come back after having their cataract surgery and say how it’s ‘night and day from what their vision was’ – that is so rewarding. I love putting a smile on patients’ faces.
Why is it important to acknowledge women in business, especially science-related careers, like eye care?
We all can do the same things men can do! We are equal and should be recognized as so. And, if a woman has daughters, she can say this is what YOU can do, too. I am proud to have four grandchildren to teach this to.
What would you say to someone who wants to get into eye care, but is maybe questioning it?
I would say to shadow another professional and get your feet wet. Make sure it’s something you really want to do. I will always say, go for it if you really want it!
What does a day like International Women’s Day (March 8th) mean for you personally?
We can celebrate changes women have made all across the world. It’s important to celebrate all different backgrounds and stories. It’s good to have representation, too.
